Finger games for toddlers

The palms of the baby are one of the most important ways to know the world. Here are the nerve centers that are associated with speech and intellectual development – it is important to stimulate their work. The usual palm strokes, finger bending and finger games contribute to the mental and emotional development of the baby. The latter, moreover, are an easy way to have fun and interesting time with the child anywhere and distract the baby from the whims by switching his attention.

Finger games are when an adult helps a child make coordinated movements with his fingers under rhymed rhymes. Up to 4-5 months, the usual massage of fingers and strokes is enough, and from this age you can include rhythmic flexion and extension in the games.

From six months it is worth adding more complex games: you can offer your child to collect crumbs, play percussion musical instruments, fold cubes or balls into empty boxes.

To develop finger motility, run your finger over the child’s palm, bend the children’s fingers one by one, saying a rhythmic rhyme:

Little boy, where have you been?

With this brother – I went to the forest!

With this brother – borscht cooked!

With this brother – I ate porridge!

With this brother – I sang songs!

I sang and danced songs!

He amused his brothers!

With the help of finger games, the child can be introduced to various phenomena, animals, plants and parts of the human body. To do this, going through the fingers on the arms and legs, speak rhymes with the names of animals, plants and help the child make simple hand movements that are associated with certain phenomena:

Tuki-toki, tuki-toki

Knocked hammers (the baby hits the table with his hands)

Hammers were knocked,

Played elbows (points to elbows):

Tuk-tok, tuk-tik,

Soon _____ (baby name) year!

Regularly playing finger games with your child, you will notice an improvement in the baby’s skills: each time it will be easier for the child to perform movements and repeat gestures, and his hands will become more flexible and less tense. Such fun for the little ones is very effective because of its unobtrusiveness, dynamism and communication – the child is interesting and fun, therefore, he learns information quickly.

Starting from the year, finger games can be expanded with the help of whole body movements. For example:

I pull the net (the child pulls),

I catch fish.

In a bag I put (shows how it puts),

I carry home:

Bee-eaters and heaps,

Rafts and shelves (we bend the fingers).

One brush –

Tai he in the pot (bend the thumb).

Borshchik brew (shows how to cook),

_____ (name of the child) we will feed.

Finger games should definitely be included in the fun with the baby. In addition to the development of nerve centers in the palms, they develop attention, help the child simultaneously memorize the words of the poem, get used to the rhythm and perform movements. After a short time of regular games, the child will already be able to pronounce individual words and even some phrases from the poem.
